Debbie was born in
Kansas City, Missouri. She joined Kappa Kappa Gamma
at Northwestern
University, along with her older sister, Cinda
Young Matthews, who also lives in Houston. Debbie’s
younger sister, Gail Young Browne, resides in
Richmond, Virginia. Debbie served her
undergraduate chapter as Treasurer. Following graduation,
Debbie taught school in Davis,
California, and then moved to Houston to teach English,
Spanish, and Texas History at Arnold Jr. High School in Cypress Fairbanks
School District.
Debbie met her husband, Frank Jones, a Rice graduate, on a blind
date to a Northwestern-Rice football game. (Rice beat
Northwestern by a score of 56-6). Debbie and Frank were
married in Kansas City in 1969.
Frank is a retired Partner of Fulbright & Jaworski. They
have two sons, residing in Virginia and Los Angeles, and a Kappa daughter, Sarah Lane, living in Houston. The Jones
have three grandchildren.
Debbie has served Kappa as the President of both the Alumnae
Association and the Kappa Kappa Gamma Charitable Foundation of
Houston, Treasurer and Membership/Director of the Alumnae
Association and the Charitable Foundation, Underwriting Co-Chair
of the Foundation, Pilgrimage Ticket and Security Co-Chair,
serving multiple times as Registrar, and has chaired many other
committees. In 1992, Debbie received the Kappa Loyalty
Award.
