- I am going to be studying abroad. Am I eligible to apply for a scholarship?
HAPF will review these on a case-by-case basis. If while studying abroad you are still considered a full time student with your college or university, and remain an active member in good standing with your sorority, you may still be eligible. Please contact us for approval. - I will be graduating in December. If I win a scholarship, will I only receive half of the amount?
You will receive 100% of the money awarded if graduating in December. - My university is on a quarter system, and 10 hours is considered full-time. Am I eligible to apply for a scholarship?
Yes. We accept the meaning of “full time student” as defined by the university or college where the applicant is enrolled. - What happens to the documents I provide? For example, financial information, transcripts, etc. I am concerned about my privacy and security of information.
The only document retained by the Houston Alumnae Panhellenic Foundation is the actual application. All supporting documents (transcripts, financial information, etc.) are shredded once the selection process is completed. The application is retained in order to have contact and university information in order to send awarded funds to the school’s financial office. - I am enrolled at Texas A&M University, but will be student teaching in Houston for a semester. Am I eligible to apply for a scholarship?
Yes, you are eligible if your university considers the student teaching assignment as being a “full time student” and as long as you meet all other eligibility requirements. - I live in Sugar Land, Fort Bend County, but graduated from a Houston Harris County high school. Am I eligible to apply for a scholarship?
Yes, you are eligible based on the location of your high school. If you graduated from a high school in Harris, Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Liberty, Montgomery or Waller County, you are eligible for a scholarship. Your county will be verified based on your high school transcript. - Can the scholarship funds be used to pay my sorority dues?
No, the scholarship funds are for tuition only and are sent directly to the university/college financial office to be applied to your tuition. - Can I win this scholarship more than once?
Yes! We have many recipients who win a scholarship more than once. You must, however, apply every time. - I am in graduate school, may I apply for this scholarship?
No, scholarships are only awarded to undergraduate students. - With large membership numbers in my sorority, I haven’t met my Chapter Adviser personally. How can I request a reference letter from her when she may only know me by my name?
While Chapter Advisers may not have had the time or occasion to get to know every member, she does know a lot about you. For example, she can confidently report if your dues are current, if you have attended or participated in required campus activities, and if you have attended chapter meetings or completed any sorority required duties.
